Phillies recall LHP Ranger Suarez to make season debut

Suarez has been sidelined since preparing for Venezuela’s World Baseball Classic with a strained left elbow. On March 30, he was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Suarez, 27, is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in three rehab games between the IronPigs and Double-A Reading.

“Everything is going well,” Suarez told the Philadelphia Inquirer in Spanish as his recovery began. “I’m feeling healthy. I’m shooting all the shots and my arm feels good. I’m happy to be here. It’s nice to help the team.”

Last season, he set career highs in wins (10), innings pitched (155 1/3), strikeouts (129) and starts (29).
