A new era is starting for the Houston Texans, and there is hope and even excitement in the air.
Just a year after they traded three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson, they had the good fortune to draft Ohio State signal-caller C.J. Stroud at No. 2, and in the third round of the draft they took wide receiver Nathaniel “Tank” Dell.

Stroud was widely considered the second-best QB prospect this year behind Bryce Young of Alabama, and some even felt Stroud could be drafted before Young at pick No. 1.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback threw for 3,688 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2022 and 4,435 yards plus 44 touchdowns the year prior, and he had a career 69.3 percent completion rate with the Buckeyes.
Dell, meanwhile, had over 1,300 yards and at least 12 touchdowns in both of his last two seasons at the University of Houston.
He is just 5-foot-8 and weighs 165 pounds, which makes him very small by NFL standards, but he has outstanding speed and the ability to add yards after the catch.
Houston also has tight end Dalton Schultz, who played his last five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, and veteran wideout Robert Woods, as well as young running back Dameon Pierce, who had a standout 2022 rookie campaign.
But under new head coach DeMeco Ryans, a former defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers, the Texans will likely look to build a culture centered around defense, especially with No. 3 overall pick Will Anderson Jr., a star linebacker, also on board.
