Croatian Airports Registered 374,000 Passengers in March of This Year

The latest data provided by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS) have revealed that during March 2023, the total passenger traffic at Croatian airports reached 374,000, with an increase of 44.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, when passenger traffic reached 258,000.

Such data also show that compared to March 2019, passenger traffic this March marked 346,000, an increase of 8.1 per cent, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to CBS statistics, Zagreb airport recorded the highest number of passengers in March with a total of 263,000, which is an increase of 34.8 per cent compared to March 2022, when passenger traffic was 195,000, and recorded an increase of 13.8 per cent compared to March 2019.

Dubrovnik Airport ranked second, with 50,000 passengers, marking an increase of 97.6 per cent compared to the figures reached last year when passenger traffic was at 25,000. On the other hand, the airport in question saw a decrease of 13.4 per cent compared to March 2019, when passenger traffic was 58,000.

Dubrovnik Airport was followed by Split Airport, which in March of this year recorded a total of 49,000 passengers and saw an increase of 56.7 per cent compared to the same month a year ago, when passenger traffic was 31,000. At the same time, Split Airport recorded a growth of 1.9 per cent compared to March 2019, when passenger traffic was 48,000.

Based on data provided by CBS, the top countries of origin for passengers in March 2023 were as follows:

  • Germany, with 80,000 passengers (+23 per cent compared to March 2022),
  • the United Kingdom with 32,000 passengers (+53 per cent)
  • the Netherlands with 25,000 passengers (+38 per cent)

Further figures from CBS also reveal that the total number of landings and takeoffs at Croatian airports in March 2023 reached 5,604 movements, which is an increase of 12.7 per cent more than in March 2022, when the number of the total landings and takeoffs at airports was only 4,974.

However, in comparison with March 2019, landings and takeoffs at Croatian airports saw a decrease of 2.5 per cent during this March. As a result, the total number of take-offs and landings reached 5,747 movements in March 2019.

Moreover, during this March, the total cargo traffic at these airports reached 808 tons, thus marking an increase of 2.4 per cent compared to March 2022, when the total cargo traffic at the airports was 789 tons, and also an increase of 2.4 per cent compared to March 2019.
