Like all of us, Hannah Gadsby is a different person today than she was five years ago, and their new Netflix special is proof something special, a cheeky title that suggests a newer, happier outlook on life. “I know this show isn’t necessarily what people expect from me, and I’m happy,” they told result“I like to catch people off guard. That’s the only consistent thing about my comedy is that you really don’t know what I’m going to do. Because I’m going to do whatever I want.”

Gadsby certainly shined in comedy in 2018 Nanette, a deeply personal and original show that opened up a whole new conversation around what it means to be stand-up. Today, however, they find the whole question of “what is comedy?” Becoming “just a waste of time”.

“It’s going to be whatever it takes,” they continued. “People will always need to laugh, and people will find different ways to do that. We’re going through a real upheaval in how we communicate broadly. So I think comedy is going to change, and I think that’s healthy. We have to Adapting to the different circumstances we’re in. But I’m just a little guy, you know. I’ll just do what I want, and everything that happens around me will be the way it needs to be. It feels too big for me to comprehend .”

For them, the best way to engage in the “conversation” is to keep making their own comedy, “That’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m really just doing my thing.”
