Earlier this month, King Gizzard and Lizard Wizard announced a piece called The PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: The Destruction of Planet Earth and the Beginning of a Relentless CurseNow, they’ve shared more details about the project, which will be released on June 16, with the unveiling of its first single, “Gila Monster.”
To give you an idea of its tortuous qualities, PetroDragonic Apocalypse It is a seven-track double album.Thematically, it’s about “humans and the planet, but it’s also about witches and dragons and shit,” as King Gizzard leader Stu Mackenzie puts it, while sonically it’s reminiscent of 2019’s fan-favorite favorite thrash metal Infested rat nest.
“When we make mouse nest, it felt experimental,” MacKenzie said. Try it and see what happens. ’ When we were making that album, we thought, ‘Fuck, why did it take us so long to do this? It was so much fun playing that kind of music, and when we played those songs live, they worked really well. So we’ve always wanted to do another metal record. “
gizzard king approached PetroDragonic Apocalypse Similar to one of their recent offerings, Ice, death, planets, lungs, mushrooms and lava. “We write a song a day, and then we come to the practice space, no riffs, no tunes, no ideas, we start from scratch. We jam, we record everything, and we put the song together,” explains Mackenzie. “I sketched out the story that the song was going to tell and broke it down into seven song titles with a little bit of what would happen in the song. I think we kind of took the record backwards.”
Lead single “Gila Monster” comes with a music video from the director of SPOD, who said in a statement, “I want to shoot lord of the rings 4 There was also a video game to be made, so I mixed the two mediums and came up with this majestic journey in search of truth and power in a cursed world.
