The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions because they have a talented roster.
Outside of Patrick Mahomes and the high-powered Chiefs offense they have some talented defensive players as well.
Their best defensive player is defensive tackle Chris Jones.
He is elite in the trenches and can dominate the game in a multitude of ways.
Last season, Jones finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
He recorded 15.5 sacks and had 17 tackles for loss.
Now he is looking to get paid like one of the game’s best.
According to Dov Kleiman, Jones wants to be “at least” the second highest-paid defensive tackle in football.
Update: #Chiefs Pro-Bowl DT Chris Jones wants to become “at least” the 2nd highest paid player at his position.
Jones’ next deal could be a 3 or 4 year extension, sources tell @ByNateTaylor

Jones is well worth top defensive lineman money, and an extension should be coming soon.
Many people agree that Jones is well worth the money.
Pay the man.

Jones could very easily ask to be the highest-paid player at his position.
But, the Chiefs may not be willing to fulfill those demands.
Yet, Jones wants to remain a part of this winning organization which is why he asked for less money.
Chris Jones knows that demanding top pay is a one-way ticket to the trade block. This is a smart man unlike a certain wide receiver the Chiefs used to have.

Finding a defensive tackle that can rush the passer is rare.
Simply put, run-stuffing defensive tackles are no longer sought after.
You need to provide some type of pass rush to get lucrative contracts.
Ultimately, Jones is giving the Chiefs a break here.
But, sometimes it makes sense for a player to take less money to stay with a winning team.
We lucky he ain’t demanding top paid cuz he deserve it. https://t.co/bQe94d3t0K

That is exactly what Jones is doing in KC.
