Kurt Vile is officially an Angel. The indie rocker shared his cover of Charli XCX’s “Constant Repeat” for Amazon Originals to celebrate the latter’s new Ivors Visionary Award.

Vile remembers the exact date he became a Charli fan: the same day he released his latest album, April 2022’s (Look at my actions). “I played an in-store gig at Rough Trade East London and her poster covered the entire front door,” he wrote in a statement. “I flew home the next morning to listen to my newfound collision CD over and over (via Discman of course!)”

Vile shares his love for Charli with his two daughters, Awilda, 13, and Delphine, 10, who both provide backing vocals on his rendition of “Constant Repeat.” As you might expect, the Violators bandleader toned down the swinging dance-pop tunes into a rounder, folk riff, even featuring some shoe-inspired guitar. That sounds really good, and having his kids involved makes it all the cuter.

“There’s only one Charli, and I can’t touch her version, we’re just trying to pay homage,” Vile continued. “Charlie’s our favorite guy.” We won’t argue with that. Play Vile’s cover of “Constant Repeat” via Amazon Music below.

Earlier this month, Vile paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Rob Laakso, longtime member of The Violators and shoegazers Swirlies.
