Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina filed paperwork for his 2024 presidential bid on Friday, officially throwing his hat at the growing Republican primary stage that former President Donald Trump has led so far.

Scott is expected to announce his presidential campaign Monday morning in North Charleston.he officially announced on friday morning archive The Federal Election Commission’s candidacy statement designating the primary campaign committees for the presidential race.

The 57-year-old lawmaker, the only black Republican in the Senate, was at a disadvantage in the primary. Even after forming an exploratory committee last month, his turnout has been low in surveys of potential fields.

Scott’s campaign did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the document.
