The new trend of artificial intelligence (AI) generating music just wasn’t for Corey Taylor. The slipknot singer lashed out at the practice, saying he “couldn’t stand it”.
AI-generated music has recently made headlines for parodying popular artists, and last month fans were even fooled by “new” songs by Drake and The Weeknd. Other performances are also “copied,” using technology that mirrors their sound, and even lyrics written in the style of a particular musician.
Some artists, such as Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows, praised the technique, calling it “Incredible Tool” For musicians, but not Taylor.The Slipknot frontman apparently doesn’t like AI-generated music, as he claims in a new interview again!radio.
“Honestly, I don’t care about that crap, man,” Taylor said. “I don’t know what people are trying to prove. Are they trying to prove that computers can do things like people? Because if so, what’s the point?”
He continued, “It’s a much worse example of technology replacing talent than I’ve been complaining about for years about Pro Tools and tuning and using the same sound. People keep saying, ‘Oh, isn’t that cool? I was like, ‘No, that’s not cool. What were you thinking — are you crazy?'”
Taylor said AI-generated music is a lazy approach to music, a reminder that artists have been writing songs for decades without the need for such technology. “What? Suddenly we don’t have talent?” he wondered. “The only thing we can get that sounds cool and new is from something that doesn’t even exist? Fuck you, man!”
If that wasn’t clear enough, Taylor ended up letting everyone know how much he hates AI-generated music, saying, “Whenever people get excited about AI in front of me, I’m like, ‘You’re not in the right place. Man. You need to go over there and talk to a moron who doesn’t care. Because I hate it. I can’t stand it.”
It’s safe to say Taylor probably didn’t use any AI technology on his recently announced sophomore solo album, CMF2In addition to revealing details of her LP, which is due to be released on September 15, and the release of the single “Beyond,” Taylor also revealed dates for her 2023 US solo tour, which will begin in late August.
