Arlo Parks releases her full follow-up to 2021 collapsed in the sun, My soft machine. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
In a statement, the London-based singer-songwriter revealed the inspiration behind her sophomore LP and its title, which she took from the 2019 Joanna Hogg film, souvenir“The world/our perception of it is filled with the most significant things we’ve ever experienced — our trauma, upbringing, vulnerability almost like visual snowflakes,” she shares. “This record documents life through my lens, through my body – the angst of my 20s, the substance abuse of friends around me, the guts of a first love, navigating PTSD and grief as well as self-sabotage and joy , a moving journey through a world of wonder and sensitivity—what it’s like to be trapped in this special body.”
For the album title, Parks cites Tom Burke’s character in souvenir That sums up all the themes of the project perfectly: “In one of the early scenes, he explains why people watch the movie – ‘We don’t want to see life evolve, we want to see people living in this soft machine experience.’ So we have it, the record is called… my soft phone“
The 12-track album features Phoebe Bridgers’ contribution to the single “Pegasus.”pax was also teased my soft phone Lead singles “Weightless”, “Impurities” and “Blades”.
