Toronto right-hander Chris Bassett (5-4) lost after going for seven runs, nine hits, two walks and five strikeouts in four or more innings.

Bichette hit his 11th homer of the season — and second of the series — with a first-inning out.

Minnesota scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Joey Gallo led with a walk, scored third on a double from Julien and scored on a shortstop hit by Alex Kirilloff. Castro was hit by a ball and stole the second before Werner hit a two-run single.

Kyle Farmer led the second with a single and scored on Julian’s two doubles.

With one out in the third, Tyler Heinemann walked and George Springer singled before Bichette brought them in with a 3.

Biggio was called to pinch in the third quarter after center fielder Kevin Kiermaier (back injury) was removed. Biggio hit his fourth homer of the season with two outs in the fourth.

Kirillov started the bottom of the fifth with a single, and Castro homered to center, bouncing off Vaschau’s glove and the top of the wall. Wallner finished his first of the season and Varsho missed again.

Castro hit his fourth homer of the season in the seventh against Adam Simber.

John Duran pitched a single in the top of the eighth.

Julian hit his fourth home run of the season against Imi Garcia in the home eighth.

Jorge Lopez allowed a single and Varsho’s eighth homer in the ninth. After a hitter and a hit, Brock Stewart took over and allowed Bichette’s RBI single to strike out before earning his first save of the season.
