Bill Belichick Clarifies Joe Judge’s Role On Coaching Staff

The New England Patriots enter a key season in 2023.

Robert Kraft’s patience seems to be running out, so missing the playoffs again won’t be an option for Bill Belichick’s team.

With that in mind, they hope offensive assistant Joe Judge can help the team’s offense come back from the dead after a terrible season with Matt Patricia as the offensive play-caller.

However, when asked about Judge’s role in the offense, Belichick gave a blunt, straight-forward response that offered little-to-no clarity, per Albert Breer.

Notably, Belichick is one of the greatest defensive masterminds of all time, and he seems to know every trick in the book as a coach.

Nonetheless, he’s been stubborn and inflexible when it comes to his offense, and that might cost him his job if they don’t get the job done next season.

Bill O’Brien will be the team’s offensive coordinator, proving that not having one was a major mistake last season, and one that only Belichick should be blamed for, as he refused to designate a replacement for Josh McDaniels.

His unorthodox ways have obviously worked, as his résumé is unmatched and he has a chance to become the winningest coach in NFL history.

But the Patriots need to overhaul their offense as a whole, and Belichick will need to delegate if they intend to take a step forward in 2023, as it’s not entirely on Mac Jones, and they’ll play in arguably the toughest division in the AFC now that Aaron Rodgers has taken his talents to the New York Jets.
