spotify music Announce On Monday, the company will lay off about 200 employees, about 2% of its workforce, as part of an effort to change the way the company handles partnerships with “the world’s leading podcasters.”

Spotify’s global headcount was 8,359 in 2020, according to the SEC recordof which 4,332 employees are in the United States.

Spotify Vice President Sahar Elhabashi announced the layoffs in a memo to employees. Those affected by the layoffs will receive “generous severance packages,” Elhabashi said.

“A fundamental pivot from a more unified proposition will allow us to better support the creator community,” Elhabashi said.

Spotify has invested heavily over the past three years to expand its podcast division. Spotify has spent 493 million euros ($526 million) on four different acquisitions in the podcasting space since 2020, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Spotify has also struck high-profile sponsorship deals with high-profile figures such as the Duchess of Sussex and Internet personality Joe Rogan.

Spotify did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
