Brian Eno has unveiled his fall 2023 European tour, the first solo live trek in his more than five-year career.
The “Ships” tour will revolve around the groundbreaking musician and producer’s 2016 LP, Boat, with the accompaniment of the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Christian Jarlwitt), British actor Peter Serafinowicz and Eno’s long-time collaborators Leo Abrahams and Peter Chilvers. The program opens in Venice on October 21 and continues to Berlin, Germany; Paris, France; and Utrecht, the Netherlands, before holding back-to-back shows in London on October 30. In a statement, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer shared, “This album Boat is an unusual composition in that it uses sound but does not particularly rely on song form. It’s an atmosphere with occasional characters drifting by, lost in the ambiguous space created by the music. There is a sense of wartime in the background, a sense of inevitability. There’s also a sense of scale for an orchestra, and the sense of multiple people working together. “
He added: “I want an orchestra that can play music the way I like it: from the heart, not just a score. I want the players to be young, fresh and enthusiastic. When I first saw Baltic Love I found out about this when I was playing the band…and noticed they were named after the sea. That’s how it was sealed!”

He has also contributed extensively to Peter Gabriel’s long-awaited upcoming solo work input Output, including the singles “Court” and “Four Horses.” The album is expected to be released later this year.
