JPMorgan Chief executive Jamie Dimon has “no plans” to run for office, according to a statement from the bank on Monday.
Speculation about Dimon’s possible political future has flared up from time to time. The chief executive is respected in business circles for his stewardship of JPMorgan, building it into the largest and most profitable bank in the United States.
Last week, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman tweets Dimon should run for president in the upcoming 2024 election.Dimon said in an interview recent interview He hopes to one day serve his country “in some capacity.”
“As he has stated in the past, Jamie has no plans to run for office,” the bank said in a statement on Monday. “He’s very happy with his current role.”
Still, Dimon himself, who took over JPMorgan in 2005, has occasionally fueled the speculation himself.In an off-the-cuff speech at a 2018 investor conference, Dimon said he could bear Then-President Donald Trump at a game. He was quick to say he regretted the comments.
In recent years, Dimon has pushed his agency in new directions, trying to tackle some of the country’s vexing problems, including health care, economic disparities and urban decay.
But his long tenure has raised questions about the New York-based bank’s succession planning.
