SRINAGAR: In the first-ever twelfth class results comprising all the students from Jammu and Kashmir – except for parts of the winter zone in the Jammu region – 65 percent were declared successful. Out of 127,636 candidates who wrote their examinations, 82,441 were declared successful.
As usual, girls have performed better than boys. While the pass percentage for boys was 61 percent, the pass percentage for girls was 68 percent. However, the shocking part of the data is that there were more girls who wrote their examinations than boys. While there were 62,116 boys, there were 65,519 girls.
The gazette issued by the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education stated that 21 percent (27,272) passed with distinction, 29 percent (36,393) passed with first division, 14 percent (17,734) passed with second division, and only 1 percent (1,042) passed with third division. A total of 41,952 candidates (33 percent) will have to reappear, and 3,243 were declared failed.
In the Science stream, all the top three positions were secured by Kashmiri students. These included the topper Shahid Bashir (Fayaz Educational Institute Faizabad Nowgam), Mustaqeem Afaq (Bisco School), and Haifa Sajad (Mallinson Srinagar).
A Jammu candidate, Kavya Sharma (SRLM Parade), shared the fourth position with three Kashmiri students – Aisha Aijaz (Oasis Srinagar), Misbah Shireen (Green Valley), and Nimat Munshi (Presentation Convent).
In the Commerce stream, the topper is Irtiza Manzoor Shah, a student of the state-run Higher Secondary School at Zadibal.
The second position was shared by six students – three from Kashmir and three from Jammu. They included Fiza Zehra (Green Valley Srinagar), Kritika Dogra (Shiksha Niketan Jeevan Nagar), Muskan Maqbool (HSS Nawa Kadal), Shriya Pathania (SP Senior Secondary School Bari Brahmana), Syed Mehnoor Andrabi (Green Valley Srinagar), and Vanshika Mahajan (SP Senior Secondary School Bari Brahmana).
The third position was shared by five candidates from across Kashmir.
In the Arts stream, all the top three positions were secured by Kashmiri students. The first two spots were taken by students from HSS Amira Kadal – Mahveen Wani and Adda Manzoor. The third position was shared by Azmat Zehra (Green Valley) and Fiza Mushtaq and Misbah from HSS Kothinbagh.
In the Home Science category, all three positions were secured by Kashmiri girls – Ilsa Parray (HSS Baramulla), Rutba Aijaz, and Itika Khursheed (Rainbagh Anantnag).
