MLB Continues To Be Impacted By Canadian Wildfires

In the last few days, there have been wildfires in Canada that have been affecting the northeastern part of the United States.

The air in several cities is polluted with small, but dangerous particles from the wildfires, giving it an ugly look and increasing the risk of respiratory diseases.

MLB‘s calendar, as a result, has been affected.

The league has had to postpone games because it’s not healthy to be out there in certain cities, most notably New York City.

However, other venues have been affected, too, and MLB has had to act quickly.

“The Arizona #Dbacks-Washington #Nationals game is the third game postponed in the last two days because of the Canadian fires. Game will be made up June 22,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

There are two games scheduled in New York for Thursday, but it’s not a lock that they will be played.

It will all depend on the environment and the quality of the air.

Postponing games might be problematic for the league as the calendar is already tight as it is, but there are times in which baseball stops being a priority.

The Canadian fires and the polluted air not only present a health hazard, but it also makes it difficult to see, to walk, to drive, and to do other basic things.

Nobody knows how long will this situation continue, but it sure has changed a lot of plans in the last couple of days.

Here is what the New York times said about the air in the Big Apple on Wednesday:

“The air in New York City on Wednesday wasn’t just bad by the city’s standards. It was historically bad, even compared with places around the world that generally experience much more air pollution,” they wrote.

Let’s all hope the situation improves soon.
