The Danish authorities have announced that another three religious preachers have been added to the national sanction list, prohibiting them from entering the territory of Denmark and of the other Schengen Area member states.

According to the Danish Immigration Service, two of the religious preachers were added to the sanction list at the end of April of this year, whereas the other one was added just last week, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

As the Danish Immigration Service explains, the three religious preachers will be subject to the entry ban for an initial period of two years. Once this period is over, the authorities assess the cases and decide to either drop or prolong the ban.

During the time that these religious preachers are subject to the entry ban, they are prohibited from entering Denmark and from residing in the country. Moreover, they are also not allowed to enter any other country in the Schengen Area.

“A foreign national who is placed on the sanction list may not travel to or reside in Denmark or any other Schengen-area country. The entry ban is valid as long as the foreign national is placed on the list. Individuals are placed on the list for two years at a time,” the statement of the Danish Immigration Service reads.

The same highlighted that if any of these people part of the sanction list enter Denmark in any way, they can be punished with a fine of imprisonment of up to three years.

Currently, the national sanction list of Denmark includes a total of 20 people, and the authorities point out that all those placed on the list can require to have their case reopened by the country’s Immigration Service.

“If the Immigration Service decides that the foreign national should remain on the list, he/she will be informed of the reason for the decision. The foreign national can appeal such a decision to the Immigration Appeals Board within eight weeks of the Immigration Service’s decision,” the Immigration Service added.

Regarding the nationals of the country who help those placed on the sanction list to enter Denmark or reside in the country, the Immigration Service said that they get punished with a fine or imprisonment of up to two years.

For this reason, religious communities’ representatives, as well as others, have been advised to be aware if a foreign national is placed on the sanction list before offering help to them to enter or reside in Denmark.

In addition to the sanction list, Denmark also has an “awareness list”, which includes foreign religious preachers that are not placed on the sanction list and who are covered by the EU regulations.
