Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah - formerly Christian Scott’s jazz director – returns with a new name, new album and new single. Bark Out Thunder Released via Ropeadope on July 28, he is previewing the release of his lead single “Xodokan Iko – Hu Na Ney.”
Bringing together influences from rock ‘n’ roll to New Orleans jazz and traditional West African music, bark thunder Documenting Chief Adjuah’s “journey into Cheifdom, the gathering of the community and the inspiration it created and continues to nurture.” Now releasing music under the name of a prominent tribal leader in the Xodokan Nation, he adds: “From the calling and echoing to thundering drums, everything about musical theater lives with us in the moments of celebration, announcement, preparation, joy and determination on our journey. Chief Adjuah even invented a new instrument used throughout the project called “Chief Adjuah’s bow”. He continued: “Each (song) is sung and stitched with the songs and stories of the Xodokan peoples, and the peoples of my relatives, ancestors and former chiefs: my grandfather who led many nations, the old chief Donald Harrison. “Xodokan Iko – Hu Na Ney” perfectly captures those stories that Chief Adjuah wants to convey as he leads the emphatic chants amid lively percussion.
