Mets Insider Reveals Interim Plan For The Rotation

The New York Mets recently discussed the possibility of shortening Kodai Senga’s days of rest to start a transition to how baseball is played in MLB when it comes to that matter.

He was roughed up on shorter rest on June 3, though.

The Mets now seem inclined to keep five rotation members to keep granting Senga that extra day, since he seems to thrive that way.

“As for the possibility of utilizing a four-man rotation during Drew Smith’s 10-game suspension, the Mets are inclined to remain at five in large part so Kodai Senga can continue receiving extra rest between starts,” Mets insider Mike Puma tweeted.

The rotation, therefore, is likely to remain at five members for the time being: Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Carlos Carrasco, Tylor Megill, and Senga.

Megill has been wildly inconsistent this season, but manager Buck Showalter and the team appear eager to stick with him for the time being.

Senga, on the other hand, has been very good in his first season stateside.

He has a 3.34 ERA in 64.2 innings.

The ERA is obviously nice, but the Mets probably want to shorten the time that passes between starts.

For now, however, that’s not likely to happen, per Puma.

If something has held back Senga this season, it has been control.

He is giving up a whopping 5.57 walks per nine innings.

That number is usually associated with ugly WHIPs and ERAs, but Senga’s stuff is so good that he manages to avoid the big inning for the most part.

He will shoot for more consistency from this point forward.
