The New York Mets were dealt a tough blow last week after Pete Alonso was hit on the hand with a pitch from Atlanta Braves right-hander Charlie Morton.

As a result, Alonso is going to miss some significant time.

However, that hasn’t gotten the veteran slugger’s spirits down.

On Thursday, after the Mets had walked off the New York Yankees the previous night, Alonso attended Jeff McNeil’s charity event, where he discussed supporting his teammates and what it means to him to give back to the community.

Alonso was also asked about his rehab journey and how he is approaching things while he’s on the injured list.

The video can be found in SNY’s tweet below.

Alonso first talked about how important it was for him to be present at McNeil’s charity event and why it’s important for he and his teammates to give back to the New York City community.

He praised McNeil for being a genuinely kind person and discussed the importance of using his platform as a player to do good for the community.

McNeil’s event was a golf tournament.

Alonso then provided an update on his rehab, jokingly saying that he wouldn’t be able to grab a golf club and participate in the tournament.

However, he did say that he is feeling better every day and that he hopes to be back soon.

There is no current timetable for a return for Alonso.

But the Mets first baseman was in good spirits and was confident that things would continue to get better for him as he continues his recovery.
