Technology is a superpower, here’s how to use it

From Batman to Iron Man, comic books often portray technology as a superpower. The same is true in the real world, says Nigel Vaz, CEO of Publicis Sapient.

Fear of new technologies like artificial intelligence and its impact on jobs is on the rise, but one chief executive believes technology is actually a superpower.

Nigel Vaz, chief executive of digital consultancy Publicis Sapient, explains that it was the rise of computers that helped him unlock his potential.

“As a kid growing up, I had dyskinesias and couldn’t execute fine motor skills very effectively,” he told CNBC’s My Biggest Lesson. “That means communicating ideas or thinking in writing is a struggle.”

Discovering computers “changed everything” for him – but he wasn’t the first to see the power and potential of technology.

“I was surrounded by comic books as a kid,” Vaz explained. “A lot of comic book heroes, like Batman or Iron Man, are ordinary people who have been enhanced by technology that turns them into superheroes.”

Watts said he believes it’s not just comic book heroes who can use technology as a superpower.

“I believe this lesson applies not only to when I was a kid, but to every individual and organization today, in terms of what they create and what they produce,” he explained.

This is just one of Nigel Vaz’s biggest lessons. Watch the video above to learn more.
