The Baronesses have announced their sixth studio album, Stone, Arrival on September 15th. At the same time, the band is also planning a North American tour in the fall of 2023, and shared the video of the lead single “Last Word”.
The seven-week “Sweet Oblivion Tour” kicks off October 13th in Baltimore and runs through December 1st in Philadelphia. Notably, the band has tapped a burgeoning who’s who of underground acts to offer support on a regional basis: Jesus Piece, Portrayal of Guilt, Primitive Man, KEN Mode, Wayfarer, Chat Pile, Vile Creature, Soul Glo, Sheer Mag, Escuela Grind, Midwife, Hoaxed, Empire State Bastard, Cloud Rat, Imperial Triumphant, Uniform, and Agriculture (with more to come).

Stone marks the Baroness’s first non-color-themed LP, but does maintain the tradition of featuring singer-guitarist John Baizley’s unique artwork. Musically, Baizley says the band indulged the urge to create something different from the Baroness’s past work, and “Last Word” showcases this creative leap, featuring a frenetic guitar arrangement — even more avant-garde than before — and an emphasis on layered melodies.
“One of the great threads of the Baroness is that we don’t like to repeat ourselves,” Bazley said in a release. “It’s all about the willingness to take risks. When I was younger, music was all about being different, not doing the same thing, not listening to your parents or playing by the rules. It was kind of silly, but in practice, It works. It’s kind of scary to hit the sixth record in your career and think you have to keep up with your history instead of constantly inventing. So we doubled down on constantly inventing and seeing if it can Take us where. I think this record reflects that very well. Stone More vivid and direct. “
baroness homemade Stone In a private vacation home in the frontier town of Barryville, New York. It was mixed by Joe Barresi (Kyuss, Tool) and mastered by Bob Ludwig (Led Zeppelin, Nirvana).
“The recording process was completely independent,” says drummer Sebastian Thomson. “The four of us spent a month in a rented house on the hill and not only developed a cohesive and authentic sound, but a strong collective mentality.”
