MUNA Celebrate Queer Joy with Tiny Desk Debut: Watch

MUNA heads to the NPR offices for their first Tiny Desk concert, marking a dream come true moment for the pop trio. The band expanded into a septet of bass, drums and strings, performing abridged versions of “Loose Garment,” “Stayaway” and “Silk Chiffon.”

Frontman Katie Gavin said, “It really feels like a wild dream to be here, and we can’t believe we’ve made it this far,” before quipping: “Seeing NPR working Everyone here is gay, which is pretty cool.” The crowd laughed in unison, reinforcing the sense of togetherness that MUNA is so good at creating. The emotional resonance of their music shines through as their lyrics and harmonies take center stage.

Before introducing their self-described “country version” of their breakthrough hit “Silk Chiffon,” Gavin talked more about the importance of having fun in building a better future. “We love being queer and have a lot of fun with it,” she said. “This is my soap opera right now: We think that if the world is going to change the way it needs to, it’s really important that our revolution be based on happiness, like what brings us happiness. Chase that .” Watch the performance below.

The appearance of Tiny Desk comes before the summer of MUNA. The 2023 tour is still underway, with the trio opening for Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour,” which will include Cincinnati, Kansas City and Denver. They will then continue on the road until the end of August.See a full list of dates and get tickets here.
