After nine years with the Boston Celtics, the storied franchise has traded veteran point guard Marcus Smart, who was the heart and soul of the team, to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team blockbuster trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Beantown.

In the aftermath of the trade, which reportedly Smart was blindsided by this week, the Celtics took to Twitter with a tribute video of sorts that emphasized his hustle plays during his time in Boston.

In classic Twitter fashion, the Grizzlies’ Twitter account hilariously quoted tweeted the Celtics’ video of Smart with an epic troll job, which could spark a little bit of a rivalry between the two teams moving forward.

Ultimately, the Grizzlies and Celtics may have improved due to this multi-team trade, which sent Smart to Memphis and Porzingis to Boston.

Although the Grizzlies will miss Tyus Jones, who Memphis sent to the Washington Wizards as part of the deal, Smart really matches the team’s grit and will likely be embraced by the team, his teammates, and the avid fanbase.

With superstar guard Ja Morant getting suspended for the first 25 games of the 2023-24 NBA season, Smart will help shoulder the load in the backcourt and could play a sizable role in Memphis right out of the gate.

Smart excelled on the defensive end of the floor during his time in Boston and won NBA Defensive Player of the Year for efforts in the season before last.

He’ll be a solid addition to a team that prides itself on being dominant defensively.
