President Joe Biden said Friday he is looking for another way to reduce student debt after the Supreme Court rejected his forgiveness plan.
“Today’s decision closes one path,” Biden said at a news conference on Friday. “Now we’re going to pursue another.”
The court’s 6-3 conservative majority rejected Biden’s plan to forgive up to $20,000 in student debt for tens of millions of Americans.
The high court said the president does not have the authority to direct his education secretary to cancel such massive consumer debts without the authorization of Congress.
