Ukrainian military officials said on Sunday that after a 12-day break, Russia launched a drone attack on Kiev and surrounding areas overnight, with air defenses destroying all weapons involved in the attack.

The air force said the attack included eight Iranian-made Shahed drones and three cruise missiles, all of which were shot down.

General Sergei Popko, head of Kiev’s military administration, posted on the Telegram channel that “the enemy is attacking Kiev again”.

Ruslan Kravchenko, the region’s military chief, said on his Facebook page that debris from the drone fell in the Kiev region, damaging three private houses and injuring one person.

Reuters witnesses heard an explosion similar to an air defense system hitting a target. There is no immediate information on the scale of the attack.

About an hour after 2:00 a.m. local time (2300 GMT), an air strike alert was placed in and around Kiev and some areas in central and eastern Ukraine.
