Pete Alonso is certainly no stranger to the Home Run Derby.

The New York Mets slugger has competed in each of the past three events, winning in 2019 and again in 2021.

Last year, he reached the semifinals before being eliminated.

Juan Soto ultimately won the derby.

But Alonso’s defeat last season has not deterred him from competing again this year.

In fact, it appears that Alonso will be back in the Derby next week in Seattle as he looks to get back on top and win his third title.

On Twitter, MLB announced the news of Alonso’s participation in this year’s Home Run Derby.

Alonso has homered 25 times this season.

Back in 2019, he won the National League Rookie of the Year Award after hitting 53 home runs, breaking Aaron Judge’s rookie record from two years prior.

Alonso has flexed his power muscle this season and appears to be on track for another solid finish as the first half draws to a close.

The veteran slugger will be joining Mookie Betts, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Randy Arozarena, and Seattle’s own Julio Rodriguez.

The Derby will be taking place at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, the home of the Seattle Mariners.

There are still three spots open for this year’s Derby.

Eight players compete and are broken off into their own matchups.

The top scores from each matchup move on to the next round.

After being dethroned last year by Soto, Alonso will look to regain his perch as the king of the Home Run Derby next week.
