July 3rd is a full moon, which means Peter Gabriel shares a new song from his upcoming album, “So Much,” input Output. Listen to the track below.
“So Much” was written and produced by Gabriel himself, with John Metcalfe on strings, Tony Levin on bass and David Rhodes Guitarist, Gabriel’s daughter Melanie (Melanie) provided backing vocals. Gabriel called the song a “simple song” about making the most of the lives we have.
“I deliberately don’t try to be clever,” the artist explained. “I wanted a very simple chorus, but still had some substance in the harmony and the melody. Something that was easy to follow but still had character.”
Gabriel continued, “‘So Much’ is about dying and getting old and all the bright, cheerful things, but I think when you get to my age, you either run from death or you jump into it and try to live. Fully , which always seemed to make more sense to me. The countries that seem to have the most vitality are those that have death as part of their culture.”

So Much is linked to Henry Hudson’s Somewhere Over Mercia, which depicts a yellow horizon against a deep indigo sky. In a statement, Hudson compared the minimalist quality of his work to “so much.”

“The song is universal,” said the artist. “I think the relationship between the song and my horizons is very deep – it’s about our understanding of time, about voids, horizons, or places that seem closer or further away.”
Today’s release of “So Much” is “Dark Side Mix,” remixed by Tchad Blake. Later this month, Gabriel will share Mark “Spike” Stent’s “Bright-Side Mix” and Hans-Martin Buff’s “In-Side Mix.”track follows his previous input Output Singles, “Four Horses”, “i/o (Bright-Side Mix)”, “The Court” and “Panorama Prison”.
