As the summer holidays approach, Brussels Airport expects the arrival of more than 4.7 million passengers from all over the world in the next two months.

With 180 destinations this summer, the Airport is preparing for a busy period.  At the same time, Brussels Airport is set to offer an extensive range of destinations, with 58 airlines,  SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to the Airport, among the top destinations for summer vacations, this season are the ever-popular classic destinations such as Spain and the Canary Islands, Greece, Türkiye, Portugal, Morocco, Italy, Tunisia, the Cape Verde Islands, and Egypt.

In order to ensure preparedness for the surge as well as to deliver a delightful airport experience for all passengers, Brussels Airports said that all partners had joined forces.

Adding to the convenience for all the passengers, BRUce, which is the virtual personal assistant for passengers, will also be easily accessible to provide flight updates and assist passengers in preparing for their flights, making everyone’s travel experience more enjoyable.

As Brussels Airport explains, on the last Friday of June, many travellers passed through the Airport to reach new destinations. The first day of the holiday saw a high number of passengers too – around 80,000.

Last weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, the Airport registered around 71,000 and 77,000 passengers, respectively.

Moreover, the Airport projected a second busy weekend of departures on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of July. During this period, Brussels Airport is anticipating a total of 231,000 passengers passing through its gates.

As for the entire summer holidays, Brussels Airport is preparing to welcome over 4.7 million passengers, a significant increase of 15 per cent compared to the figures recorded n 2022i. This surge in the number of passengers presents a heightened desire for travel and, at the same time, indicates a rebound for the aviation industry.

To prepare for the significant increase in passenger traffic, all partners at Brussels Airport have collaborated to ensure efficient passenger flow management.

According to the Airport, their efforts have led to the implementation of various measures to optimise operations. One notable action includes increasing capacity at the border control in the Connector area.

Moreover, to facilitate smoother border control processes, three new automated border control gates have been added, bringing the total to 12 gates. These computerised gates work alongside the staffed border control booths operated by the Federal Police. The ABC-gates can be used by all passengers who hold an EU passport as well as British nationals travelling outside the Schengen Area.
