The Dallas Mavericks have been trying to do everything within their power to put talent around superstar Luka Doncic, especially after a season filled with disappointment with the team going from the Western Conference Finals to missing the NBA playoffs entirely.

Ahead of the NBA trade deadline last February, the Mavericks made a bold and unexpected move to trade for superstar guard Kyrie Irving, which led many to speculate on whether he and Doncic could coexist with both needing the ball to be successful.

Although the new dynamic duo in Dallas showed flashes of potential to be a great combo, the team headed into a downward spiral, shedding doubt about the team’s future and Doncic’s status with the franchise.

Over the past few weeks, the Mavericks hadn’t done much to improve the roster outside of retaining Irving, but they have made a couple of strong moves as of late by bringing back sharpshooter Seth Curry and landing forward Grant Williams in a three-way deal with the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs.

Shortly after getting the deal figured out, the Mavericks took care of Williams by securing his long-term future with a new contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Adding Williams, Curry, and re-signing Irving seem like steps in the right direction, but these moves don’t make this team a title contender in a stacked Western Conference led by the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Mavericks try to make any other moves this summer and whether they can really move the needle ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season.
