What We Do In The Shadows Season 5 Review: New Blood

court: Long-suffering Guillermo (Harvey Gillan) tired of Nandore (Kevin Novak) for years when we last left this group of misfit vampires to live on Staten Island The abuse that comes, and his ever-elusive promise to make him a vampire, decides to turn to his newly transformed buddy Derek (Chris Sandiford) for a bloody ritual instead. Now, his greatest wish has come true — well, sort of. For some reason related to Derek’s aversion to blood, Gizmodo’s transformation is happening at a snail’s pace.

As for the nocturnal animals around him, they still maintain their old antics, albeit in some new environments. Nandol is obsessed with health books and becomes obsessed with a quirky new friend he makes at the gym (he’s Jewish!). Meanwhile, Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) becomes preoccupied with giving her sentient doll (also Demetriou) the same life experiences, including what it’s like to have sex in a human body.

Colin Robinson (Mark Proksh) finds new ways to drain the good guys of Staten Island, from working as an annoying waitress at a fast-casual restaurant to running for office. Laszlo (Matt Berry) tests the limits of his irrepressible charm when he gets into trouble during a sleepover with his neighbors. Also, the wizard (Kristen Schaar) has joined the house as a new roommate, though the rest of the house seems to barely notice. The more the fangs change, the more they stay the same.

I’m fine and so are you: although what do we do in the shadows Seasons 3 and 4 had a major impact on our characters’ trajectories, see how it affects them (vampire council, Colin’s death and rebirth as a creepy human-faced baby), episode 5 of The Critics Showcase Season four felt like a throwback to the isolated antics of previous seasons. The stakes (huh) are smaller and more episodic: Vampires feel the thrill of the mall for the first time and run away from the police, or help their neighbor Sean (Anthony Atamanuk) campaign for an audit by hosting a straight-up pride parade Older people throw things when they’ve never been within yards of a queer person in their life (“My bisexual cousin will come over and lip-sync with some”) Sweet tune”).

Gone are the crew’s higher aspirations of making their mark on the Vampire Council or starting a fun vampire nightclub. This time, they’re just scraping by, helping their neighbors.Centuries passed, and they finally settle down Get into where they are and find some happiness there.

Valley of the Dolls: Thankfully, that stagnation doesn’t filter down to the show itself…for the most part. Some of the subplots are underwhelming (Sean’s added screen time makes the character thin), and the show seems so excited to lock Shar as a regular that they haven’t thought of anything interesting to do with her yet . But even those wrinkles are bolstered by the cast’s incredible chemistry and comedic timing: Novak, Berry, and Demetrio are in great shape, fitting into these characters like comfortable slippers.
