Former Star NBA Point Guard Set To Host Private Workout

At this point of the offseason, there aren’t that many free agents still available in the NBA, let alone free agents that have been successful in their pro careers.

However, there is one man available who has made the All-Star team twice and was once a legitimate candidate for the regular-season MVP award.

Point guard Isaiah Thomas has scheduled a private workout for Monday in Las Vegas, and multiple NBA teams are expected to show up, per Jamal Crawford.

It’s easy to forget that Thomas was once a difference-making player in the NBA.

As recently as the 2016-17 season, he averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists per game while helping the Boston Celtics reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

That was the year Thomas finished fifth in the regular-season balloting.

But since then, injuries have sapped him of much of his ability, and he has failed to play in more than 40 games in a single season since.

Thomas, who is 34 years of age, did not suit up for an NBA team this past season, and he last played for the Charlotte Hornets during the 2021-22 campaign.

At 5-foot-9, he is seen by many as a defensive liability, and at this point of his career, his offensive ability, either as a scorer or a distributor, may not be enough to make up for what he lacks on the defensive end.

But perhaps one team will see enough in him to make him a bench player or perhaps an emergency option should an injury occur during this coming season.
