Are Gen Zs the most challenging generation to work with? 3 in 4 managers think so

Of the 1,344 managers and business leaders surveyed, 27 percent fired Gen Z employees within a month of hiring, with most citing the generation being too easily offended and lacking in drive and effort.

An estimated 1.8 billion adolescents and young adults between the ages of 10 and 24 make up the largest generation in history. By 2022, youth aged 15 to 24 will comprise 34 percent of the global workforce.

Gen Z, roughly defined as those born between the mid-to-late 1990s and early 2010s, are the latest generation to enter the workforce.

About three-quarters of managers believe Gen Z is the most difficult generation to work with, according to a survey by job seeker resource site Resume Builder.

“There have been generations of people who have been more prepared for the workforce than they are today,” Stacie Haller, chief career advisor at Resume Builder, told CNBC in an interview.

Pointing to Gen Z employees having to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and remote work, she added: “[Generation Z]don’t even have the opportunity to connect with people in the workplace. They’re thrown into an environment where people don’t have access. “Those who have had this experience are still struggling. ”

Ziad Ahmed, founder of JUV Consulting, a digital marketing agency staffed entirely by Gen Z employees, told CNBC that managing young people is also a challenge for him.

“No matter what generation, there is no standard for new hires,” said the 24-year-old.
