NBA Analyst Shares Full Details Of Grant Williams’ Mavericks Contract

Date:

The Dallas Mavericks are attempting to redeem themselves after a very disappointing 2022-23 season.

Although they started out strong and even landed Kyrie Irving in the middle of the season, they ended up missing the playoffs completely.

The Mavericks see a chance to improve their luck with the recent addition of Grant Williams, formerly of the Boston Celtics.

The trade for Williams was announced a few weeks ago but it’s now official.

Keith Smith is reporting that the contract is for four years and $53.3 million.

Additionally, it is fully guaranteed with no options, Smith said.

That means that ideally, Williams is going to be in Dallas for the next four years without question.

Of course, there are many reasons why that might not end up happening.

A trade could snag him away from the Mavericks before his four years are up.

But it looks like Dallas is really committed to the forward.

In the 2022-23 season, he produced 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.

That was only in 25.9 minutes per game and as a starter for just 23 of 79 games.

It is unlikely that the Mavericks signed Williams with the intent of making him a bench player again.

They envision him playing alongside Luka Doncic and Irving at the start of games.

Therefore, it’s likely he gets even more minutes and improves his stat line too.

The Mavericks might not be done hunting for new players after Williams.

They have multiple spots on their roster that need improvement before the new season kicks off in a few months.

Williams will be an important part of their mission but he might not be the last one.
