Yankees Reportedly Targeting Notable Cardinals Outfielder

With Aaron Judge currently on the shelf, the New York Yankees have been forced to improvise with their outfield.

Recently, the Yankees have been targeting various outfielders in trade discussions.

One of those outfielders, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, is Dylan Carlson of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Slugger Tyler O’Neill is expected to return for St. Louis on Tuesday and take over the starting left field job, which will ultimately squeeze Carlson out of a starting role.

Given that information, Carlson has become a potential trade target for the Yankees.

Feinsand reported this news on Twitter, and discussed the potential fit the Yankees could have for the switch-hitting outfielder.

The Cardinals have a glut of young outfielders, some of whom are essentially blocked by other pieces.

Carlson is one of those pieces.

But with Judge out, the Yankees could ultimately find a spot for him.

If Carlson ends up joining the Yankees, he would reunite with his former Cardinals teammate in Harrison Bader, who the Yankees acquired last year in exchange for Jordan Montgomery, another Cardinal who could be on the move in a few weeks.

The 24-year-old is hitting .243 with five home runs and 21 RBI and has an OPS of .726.

St. Louis drafted him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft out of Elk Grove High School in California.

In addition to Judge, the Yankees also have Jake Bauers currently on the injured list.

Carlson could provide them with power from both sides of the plate and potentially benefit from the short right field porch at Yankee Stadium.
