As the trade deadline approaches, mostly everybody around the baseball world is wondering what will happen with Shohei Ohtani and if the Los Angeles Angels will ultimately trade him.

However, another player that is being discussed is Chicago White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease.

After finishing second in the Cy Young voting last year, Cease has had a rather disappointing season.

The 27-year-old owns a record of 4-3, but has an ERA of 4.18 in his 20 starts this year.

However, Greg Amsinger of MLB Network doesn’t see any possibility that Cease gets traded, despite the White Sox having such a down season, and he discussed as much on 101 ESPN St. Louis.

Amsinger acknowledged that Cease is a name that is being floated around in trade rumors.

However, despite the struggles of the White Sox, Amsinger sees Cease as a solid piece to hang onto for the future and believes that he will be the White Sox’s ace for years to come.

The right-hander still has two years of club control after this season.

Instead of trading Cease, Amsinger states that it is more likely the White Sox trade Lucas Giolito or potentially Lance Lynn, citing Cease as somebody the team should build around.

He then compared Cease to Sandy Alcantara, who like the White Sox ace is having a tough season.

Though both pitchers are struggling, they remain the most valuable assets on their teams given their recent history.

Alcantara won the Cy Young in the National League last season, and Cease came close to taking it in the American League.
