Jaylen Brown Thanks Celtics After Signing Richest NBA Deal Ever

Star wing Jaylen Brown is going to become a super wealthy man, as the Boston Celtics have just given him a five-year contract extension that will pay him just over $300 million.

That new deal has put to rest the rumors that he was perhaps on his way out of Boston just one year before he would’ve become a free agent.

Per the team’s Twitter account, Brown thanked the Celtics and the Boston area community for investing in him, and he said “that investment will be felt in return.”

Plenty of people feel Brown’s new contract is excessive — he’s a very good player who has been named to the All-Star team twice, but he’s not an elite player, nor is he even the best player on his own team.

Still, he’s coming off his best season yet, as he put up 26.6 points and 6.9 rebounds a game while shooting 49.1 percent from the field, all of which were career highs.

While co-star Jayson Tatum has often played poorly in big playoff games, Brown has looked to pick up at least some of the slack in some situations.

Now the onus will be on Brown to live up to his humongous new contract, and in the end, he will have to help lead the Celtics to a world championship.

While they have been championship contenders over the last couple of years, they have come up short on the big stage, and doing so simply goes against the team’s storied history.
