A few months ago, there were rumors of Kyrie Irving attempting to persuade LeBron James to join the Dallas Mavericks.

Of course, those rumors never led anywhere and James is still with his Los Angeles Lakers.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban gave a little insight into James possibly joining his team.

Sitting down on Bobbi Althoff’s popular web show, Cuban was jokingly asked if James plays for the Mavericks.

Cuban immediately said no but then quietly added that “he wants to be.”

He was then asked if the team was trying to sign James and he said, “No, we have this guy named Luka Doncic.”

The conversation was a light-hearted comedic one so Cuban’s response needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

In other words, he was joking when he said that James “wants to be” on the Mavericks.

But there is truth in his second response when Cuban said that he’s not interested in acquiring James because Dallas has Doncic.

Doncic is easily one of the best young players in the league.

There is no doubt that he is the most important part of the team and could be the league’s MVP in the upcoming season.

Additionally, the Mavericks recently added Irving as well, another bonafide talent who could help the team move deep into the playoffs.

They didn’t have a good season last year but they do have many important pieces on the roster.

Cuban shouldn’t want to pursue James and instead should focus on building around Doncic and Irving.

But he needs to move quickly because fans are growing impatient with the team not capitalizing on all this potential.
