Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics has hit the jackpot, as the team recently gave him a five-year contract extension that is worth just over $300 million.
Some are questioning the wisdom of that extension, as he is a very good player, but not quite an elite one.
Although Brown established career highs in scoring, rebounding, and shooting accuracy this past season, he still had one glaring weakness in his game.
During the playoffs, he committed 66 turnovers in 20 games, and a considerable number of them came when he dribbled with his left hand, according to The Athletic (via NBACentral).

It is generally understood that basketball players need to be able to handle the ball and shoot layups with their off hand to make it in the NBA, but some standouts in the league still haven’t managed to do so.
Brown has been named to the All-Star Game in two of the last three seasons and was also elected to the All-NBA Second Team last season, and until he received his extension, there was speculation that he had one foot out the door.
He was going to become a free agent next summer, and some felt that he was planning on leaving Beantown at that time.
Instead, he and fellow star Jayson Tatum will be wearing green for the next several years.
Now the task for the Celtics is to get over the hump and return to their past glory.
They lost in the 2022 NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors and got humbled at home in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals a couple of months ago, and they will have a new-look roster this coming season around Brown and Tatum.
