After being unable to get back on track in the post-Peyton Manning era, the Denver Broncos brought in another proven veteran quarterback last year by trading for Russell Wilson in a blockbuster deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

The trade immediately put the spotlight back on the Broncos as it was a move that the team had made before and had a lot of success with, as Manning led the team to two Super Bowl appearances and one title during his time in the Mile High City.

Unfortunately, last season turned out to be a disaster for the Broncos, with Denver taking two steps back rather than a giant leap forward, as it seemed as though Wilson was finally past his prime and no longer the dominant quarterback of old.

However, this summer, the team addressed what it thought was the biggest problem by bringing in head coach Sean Payton, and that has sparked some optimism that Wilson can get back to form, as former NFL star Greg Jennings believes the Broncos are now a dark-horse Super Bowl team, via “First Things First” this week.

Jennings argues that Wilson was not in shape last season and is in shape this year in anticipation of having a bounce-back year in Denver with Payton calling the shots on the sideline.

The former NFL wide receiver also claims that last season Wilson didn’t seem to care when the team struggled, and now he does care, which is a questionable take, to say the least, especially before a game has been played.

Only time will tell if Wilson can bounce back at this point in his career, as the 2023 NFL season will be a make-or-break year for the veteran quarterback.
