Patrick Mahomes is considered by most to be the greatest quarterback in the NFL today, and it is his excellence at that position that has led to his Kansas City Chiefs winning two Super Bowl championships in the previous four seasons.
He won the Super Bowl MVP both times, and he also has two regular-season MVPs to his name, which already makes him one of football’s all-time greats at the age of 28.
But Mahomes reportedly now has another role for the defending world champion Chiefs.
Special teams coordinator Dave Toub says he is their backup punter, and Mahomes took to Twitter to emphatically confirm that proclamation.

Although the Chiefs haven’t looked dominant for most of this season so far, they are tied for the best record in the league at 5-1, even as they figure out what to do about the wide receiver position, which is arguably their biggest weakness right now.
Mahomes has completed 68.3 percent of his passes and thrown for 1,593 yards and 11 touchdown passes while posting a 95.7 passer rating, and while those numbers may be solid for most, for him, they are definitely subpar.
The league and its fans have learned to never bet against Mahomes, but if Kansas City doesn’t find a legitimate No. 2 threat in their passing game behind star tight end Travis Kelce, they could end up losing in the playoffs before being able to make it to Nevada for Super Bowl LVIII.
They have brought back wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who had played for them the previous four seasons, but they may need to make a bigger splash before the October 31 trade deadline in order to bolster their chances of winning a third world championship in five years.
