Dusty Baker has been an MLB manager since 1993, when he took over the San Francisco Giants and led them to 103 wins.
His career has had a couple of breaks; in 2007, 2014-15, and 2018-19.
He always came back, though, ready to compete and lead contenders to the playoffs.
After Monday’s ALCS Game 7 loss against the Texas Rangers, the Houston Astros skipper is ready to retire and enjoy his family.

Baker is set to retire with a 2,183-1,862 record and a .540 winning percentage in regular-season play.
He finally won a World Series last year with the Astros and was eager to repeat in 2023, but the tough Rangers got in his way.
Despite a reputation as a playoff loser, Baker has a 57-51 record with a .528 winning percentage in postseason play as a skipper.
He made three World Series as a manager: in 2002 leading the Giants, and in 2021-22 with the Astros.
All things considered, and despite a poor record in winner-take-all games, Baker managed to complete an amazing career.
He was a very good player back in the day and translated that success to the dugout.
If this is indeed the end, he can go home with peace of mind knowing he achieved what most couldn’t: the universal respect and admiration from fans, colleagues, and front offices.
Now, the Astros have to fill their managerial position and it will be one of the most interesting storylines of the offseason.
