During the first nine months of this year, Denmark witnessed 18.8 million overnight stays in its accommodation establishments, Statistics Denmark reveals.

This figure reflects a decrease of 385,000 overnight stays when compared with the first three quarters of the previous year, even though July and August registered a significant rebound, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Despite the decline, the number of vacation home overnight stays in the first three quarters of the year has only been exceeded in 2022.

Statistics Denmark

The decrease in overall numbers results from 400,000 fewer overnight stays in the first and second quarters compared to last year. In contrast, an increase of 15,000 overnight stays in July and August contributed to the increase in the third quarter.

The data also unveiled that during September of this year, the number of overnight stays in vacation homes reached 2.2 million, which reflects little to no change from the same month in the previous year.

Specifically, in September of this year, Denmark recorded 2,224,508 overnight stays in holiday homes, which is slightly lower than the same month in the previous year, which witnessed 2.235.800 overnight stays.

Of those, 459,200 were by Danish residents and 1,765,300 were international overnight stays by foreigners who visited the country.

Of all foreign visitors, data show that those from Sweden, Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands spent the most overnight stays in Danish accommodation establishments in September 2023.

Moreover, it has been revealed that Jutland accounted for 83 per cent of the total number of overnight stays in Denmark in the month of September, with a distribution of 34 per cent in South Jutland, seven per cent in East Jutland, 26 per cent in West Jutland and 16 per cent in North Jutland.

In addition to the above mentioned, the Danish island Zealand accounted for nine per cent of overnight stays in September 2023, along with Bornholm and Funen, sharing an equal four per cent each.

Previously, SchengenVisaInfo.com revealed that last year, Denmark registered a total of 39.6 million overnight stays for the whole year, providing a valuable understanding of the long-term trends and sustained attraction of the country of Denmark.

While at the end of September 2023, the number of overnight stays spent in the country’s accommodation establishments stood at 18.8 million, it is believed that the number will significantly increase over the next months, especially in December.
