Insider Says Giants Will ‘Consider Drafting A QB’

Despite signing quarterback Daniel Jones to a multi-year contract extension before the start of the 2023 season, the New York Giants appear to be in the market for a new signal-caller in 2024.

Jones just tore his ACL in New York’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders last week, and he will now miss the Giants’ remaining eight games this season.

But even before suffering a serious knee injury against the Raiders, Jones wasn’t really playing well enough during the previous few weeks to guarantee that he would return in 2024 as New York’s starting quarterback.

As for what the Giants could be looking to do at the quarterback position in 2024, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport recently shared that the team “will at least consider” selecting one of the top signal-callers in the 2024 NFL Draft (via Ian Rapoport on Twitter).

In his six appearances this year, Jones completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 909 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions, in addition to rushing for 206 yards and another score.

A year after it seemed like the fifth-year quarterback had turned a corner and was finally living up to his potential after helping lead the Giants to the playoffs, Jones regressed back down to an underwhelming level of play this season.

Currently, New York has a 2-7 record, and if the season were to end today, they would have the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

A selection that high would likely allow the Giants to land one of the top passing quarterback prospects in the 2024 draft pool.

If that were to happen, Jones’ tenure in New York would likely be over sooner rather than later.
