The Buffalo Bills entered Monday Night Football confident, ready to bring their record to 6-4.
They had a chance to solidify their spot in the playoff hunt, putting themselves among the AFC’s best records.
However, they ended up falling short to the Denver Broncos, an outcome that Sean McDermott called “inexcusable” to reporter Katherine Fitzgerald.
Sean McDermott says “absolutely” the end of the game was “inexcusable” — notes that the team practiced exactly that scenario multiple times this week

One of the biggest reasons McDermott was upset with his team was their preparation for this type of late-game outcome.
As McDermott highlighted to Fitzgerald, the Bills worked on this scenario in practice in case it came up in a game.
They might have practiced this situation, but when the rubber hit the road, the Bills fell short in an actual game.
The Bills had too many men on the field during the Broncos’ first attempt at the game-winning field goal.
That kick missed, but because of the Bills’ penalty, the Broncos got another try, which kicker Will Lutz made with ease.
Instead of being in the driver’s seat for the rest of the season, the Bills face an uphill battle instead.
It will be interesting to see how this team responds to McDermott’s comments along with their opponents throughout the rest of the season.
They still have to face the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and the Miami Dolphins.
Their road to the postseason just got a lot more difficult, something McDermott seems to recognize.
Every game counts in the NFL, and by losing a game they should have won, the Bills might have put their entire season in jeopardy.
