The word of a person is their most valuable trait.

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor may have taken a year to fulfill his promise to teammate Jeff McNeil, but he finally came through this week.

First, we will show you Lindor’s gift to McNeil, courtesy of SNY via Twitter:

Now, we will proceed with the explanation and Mets insider Anthony DiComo will help.

Why did Lindor buy a car for his teammate?

It all goes back to May 2022.

McNeil was red-hot back then, hitting .348 after a 2-for-4 night.

In typical goofy clubhouse conversation style, Lindor told McNeil that if he were to win the batting title that year, he would buy him a car.

McNeil, of course, held on and bested Freddie Freeman by one percentage point.

Then, for months, everybody from players to fans talked about Lindor’s promise.

Now, it’s official: he got McNeil a blue Ford Bronco.

McNeil and Lindor have had their differences in the past, but appear to be in a great place now.

A bet is a bet, and Lindor is a man of his word.

He came through with a really nice set of wheels.

As for McNeil, he is surely happy even though the gift came a year later.

It doesn’t matter if you are a professional athlete making great money (he signed a four-year, $50 million extension in January), anytime someone gives you a car, you smile and enjoy it.

It’s that simple.

It’s definitely a cool story for the Mets clubhouse as they embark on a crucial offseason.
