On Sunday, Bronny James, son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, made his basketball debut on the college level by suiting up and playing for the University of Southern California for the first time.

Even though Bronny’s debut was always expected to be an event, it had a lot more meaning than first anticipated due to the young basketball star having a cardiac arrest on the USC practice floor over the summer, which shed doubts on whether he’d ever play again.

Fortunately for Bronny, he made a full recovery and stayed the course to keep his hopes of a long basketball career alive and well, leading to his debut on Sunday.

One of LeBron’s closest friends and former teammate, Dwyane Wade, couldn’t help but get emotional when Bronny took the court on Sunday, as he took to Twitter to welcome the young star back to the basketball court.

In 17 minutes off the bench for USC, Bronny finished with four points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Trojans fell to Long Beach State, 84-79.

Even though this wasn’t the ideal debut for Bronny, who had all eyes on him on Sunday, it is a giant leap in the right direction for the promising young star as he begins his college basketball career down the street from where his dad leads the Lakers on a nightly basis during the NBA season.

Bronny’s career will continue to be watched closely for obvious reasons, and hopefully, he can one day make the jump to the next level to play alongside his father.
