Jim Harbaugh, the head coach at the University of Michigan, has been embroiled in some controversy, as the Big Ten Conference recently suspended him for allegedly stealing signs.

Perhaps as a result, there have been heavy rumors that he will return to the NFL next season, and more than one team has been rumored to be a destination for him.

Some feel Harbaugh, who is a native Midwesterner, could coach the Chicago Bears next season, but the Bears have a lacking roster and will likely take several years to build a winning squad.

On Friday, another coaching vacancy opened up when the Los Angeles Chargers fired Brandon Staley following a humiliating 63-21 loss at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kevin Clark said on ESPN’s “Around the Horn” that while the Chargers coaching job is overrated due to the age and deficiencies of the roster, Harbaugh is the man to maximize that roster.

The Chargers have a bunch of injury-prone key players, a few of which are perhaps becoming long in the tooth, but they do have a young star quarterback in Justin Herbert.

Herbert’s numbers have been down a bit this season, and he suffered a fractured finger on his throwing hand in Week 14 that ended his campaign, but he is clearly a star who has outstanding physical gifts.

Harbaugh previously coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014, and upon taking over there, they went from a 6-10 record in 2010 to a 13-3 record in 2011, and they came very close to reaching the Super Bowl that year.

Chargers fans are hoping he will come to town and produce similar results with their squad.
