Once the Super Bowl concludes and the NFL crowns a champion, there will be some interesting head coaching candidates across the league.

Bill Belichick will reportedly be fired by the New England Patriots once the season ends, and one has to expect him to be in high demand.

Another prime head coaching candidate will be Jim Harbaugh, who is currently the head coach at the University of Michigan and is rumored to be looking to return to the NFL.

But at the same time, a more unheralded candidate should be Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator.

There are rumors that Johnson will demand a big salary, but his agent, Richmond Flowers III, took to Twitter to say that such rumors are false.

After a number of years as an assistant with both the Lions and Miami Dolphins, Johnson was promoted to the Lions’ offensive coordinator role prior to last season.

Serving under head coach Dan Campbell, Johnson has done a remarkable job, as the Lions have been in the top five in points and total yards the last two seasons.

This year, they hold a 10-4 record, and they have been tabbed by some as the team most capable of upsetting the 11-3 San Francisco 49ers come playoff time.

Under Johnson, quarterback Jared Goff has elevated his play, and while he may not be an elite quarterback, he has become a definite threat.

In Detroit’s impressive 42-17 win over the Denver Broncos last weekend, Goff threw five touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

Among the teams expected to have a head coaching opening this offseason are the Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and Chicago Bears.
